TEHRAN (FNA)- Abdel Bari Atwan, the editor-in-chief of Rai al-Youm newspaper, said that firing of thousands of rockets by the Palestinian resistance forces against the occupied lands showed a great change in the strength and power of the resistance.

"Firing of 4,000 missiles at Israel in the eleven days of war indicates a major change in the strength and power of the resistance," Atwan said, in an interview with Al-Mayadin news channel on Saturday.

"The resistance fired 4,000 missiles in eleven days. If the war continued, it would fire even 40,000 more missiles, and this is a huge change in the power of resistance,” he added.

"Today is the day of celebration and the day that Netanyahu and Israel were defeated heavily. In such circumstances, the question is how to protect this victory. The resistance has taken control of the situation. The Israelis had always imposed policies and wars to the resistance, the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian people but this is the first time that the resistance has spoken out its words and deeds, the resistance has spoken out with missiles, and this is unprecedented,” Atwan said.

He noted that all the US and Israeli plots, the deal of the century, the normalization and Ibrahim agreements and coexistence with the Zionists has failed and even the Israeli enemy has failed, adding that firing 4,000 missiles is one of the most important achievements.

The Palestinians and Israeli regime declared a truce on Friday after 12 days of war.

The Israeli military launched a bloody military onslaught against the Gaza Strip on May 10, razing many homes and civilian buildings to the ground in the already-besieged Palestinian territory.

Meanwhile, Palestinian sources reported that the death toll from Israel’s ongoing aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip has risen to at least 248 Palestinians, including tens of children and women.

The report by the Palestinian Health Ministry noted that Israel’s military aggression, which lasted for 12 days, has also wounded over 1,900 civilians, dozens of them seriously.

Meantime, retaliatory rocket attacks by Hamas and Islamic Jihad against Israeli targets came in response to Israel’s relentless airstrikes on the densely-populated enclave.

On May 16, Israeli major general Ori Gordin said Gaza-based Palestinian resistance groups had fired around 3,000 rockets toward the occupied territories over the previous several days, surpassing the pace seen during an escalation in 2019 and the 2006 war with Lebanon's Hezbollah resistance group.

Israel had to accept self-declared ceasefire on Friday.
