Members of the Iranian parliament reelected Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf as speaker of Iran’s legislative body for the second consecutive year.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Members of the Iranian parliament reelected Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf as speaker of Iran’s legislative body for the second consecutive year.

During an open session of the parliament on Wednesday, Qalibaf received 230 from a total number of 242 votes cast by the lawmakers.

Ali Nikzad and Abdolreza Mesri were also elected as the first and second vice-speakers with 206 and 205 votes each.

Qalibaf, 58, replaced Ali Larijani after the parliamentary elections on February 21, 2020. Over 24 million people took part in the polls with the overall turnout of more than 42 percent.

The polls took 276 lawmakers into the 290-member legislature. 14 others will be elected in the mid-term elections. The 11th parliament is dominated by principlists.

The lawmakers take the seats for a four-year term.
