Rouhani Calls for Int'l Support for Palestinians

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called on all the world countries to increase their support for the oppressed nation of Palestine.

"The regional conditions necessitate all world countries to voice support for the Palestinians with a louder voice," President Rouhani said in a meeting with Ugandan Parliament Speaker Rebecca Alitwala on the sidelines of the 6th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada (Uprising) that ended in Tehran on Wednesday.

The Iranian president reiterated that Israel has been striving to sideline and put into oblivion the issue of Palestine, and said, "The countries which are interested in restoration of rights of the Palestinian people should remain beside each other and launch joint efforts to reach their important goal."

He pointed to the status quo of Iran-Uganda relations, and said, "We welcome further expansion of Tehran-Kampala relations."

"The ground should be paved for the presence of the Iranian companies in Africa, especially Uganda, with an aim to promote joint banking cooperation," President Rouhani said.

Alitwala, for her part, thanked Iran for successfully holding the conference on Palestine in Tehran, and said, "Iran has always been adhering to the aspirations of the Palestinian people, striving for their materialization."

She went on to say that the issue of Palestine is among the essential and key issues of all Muslims and freedom-seeking Muslims, and added, "We believe in absolute defense of Palestinian nation, needing more voices other than the loud voice of Iran."

She asked for more extensive presence of Iranian companies to further implement industrial, agricultural, health, medication and energy projects in Uganda.

The 6th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada was held in Tehran on February 20-21.

Delegations from 80 countries attended the conference to express solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Iran has, for a long time, given the highest priority to supporting Palestine and confronting the Israeli regime. The Islamic Republic, since it was founded, has held five international conferences in support for the Palestinian Intifada.
